The General Chat Thread (2025)

It could fit the "what are you drinking" and the "show us your pet", but decided to post it here.
Sherlock and I are having a sundowner. It's Friday after all.

So several years ago, my youngest daughter finished college and no longer had need of her really nice Brother scanner/fax/printer, so she gave it to me when I mentioned that I was ready to go buy a new one (the one I had was old and had quit on me). Anyway, it was bluetooth and state of the art for the times, and I had it installed wirelessly on my HP desktop. Well my HP gave up the ghost 3 years ago and I bought a Dell (wish I would have gotten another HP in hindsight but oh well). Anyway, I couldn't find the drivers/installer disc so I installed it on the Dell using the downloads from the Brother website, but it wasn't wireless anymore and I had a cable running from the printer to the desktop whenever I needed to print anything. I also had the printer on top of a tallish cabinet, so whenever I wanted to scan anything, I had to stand up on a stool to put the paper in the flatbed, LOL. I moved my 2-drawer filing cabinet and am using the top of it for my printer and it fits perfectly! And while cleaning out cabinets and such, I found the disc and uninstalled the previous drivers and reinstalled the printer, and now I have wireless again!

Reminds me of VoTech school in '82. We had a Burroughs 1900 mainframe hooked up to a line printer, prints a line at a time. Let that thing loose you could be knee deep in paper in seconds. This was when 10 megs of HD was a pack the size of a small suitcase and it went in a cabinet drawer the size of a filing cabinet. Fortran, Cobol, etc. for languages...

Well, some beach!!!
Had the independent home inspector out this AM and it was what I had suspected, a new roof, some window beading, gutters and gutter leaf guards are in our future.
With that being said, we called back the roofing company that come by the other day, nice kid with a young family of FIVE kids, and tied it all up neat and tidy with a big red bow.
Insurance company was contacted and now we're just waiting on their adjuster to come out and do what they need to do ... but here's the bugger of it all ....
We have to go down to The Big City for a procedure for DH and may not be back for a bit, in fact, we won't. It's a drive to go down there not to mention it's on the 4th most dangerous highway in America - 🤬 and I don't want to come all the way back up here to Cowboyville Arizona and have complications with no one to help us up here, this happened before and it isn't pretty.
My angel with a roofing hammer in his hand has already assured me that it's all good, should the insurance company want to come out here while we're gone, he's got our back. "Just tell them that you'd like the insurance adjuster to meet with our contractor."
DONE!
AND, this afore mentioned angel is putting on a much better "class" of roofing shingle that is rated for hail and wind, "Class 3 impact" material at no extra charge :highfive: didn't know that there was such a thing! We've always only gotten builder grade 💩 and that's why this is our second roof in 8 years on this house, damn it all!

You'll make it! BTW, there's even different grade hardness levels on nuts and bolts too. 😄 Grades of Bolts - Bolt Grade Marking Chart | AFT Fasteners

Finally got some much-needed rain yesterday afternoon and night. We really needed a good soaking instead of intense storms, but we need to take what we can get.

Hopefully some of the areas north of here with wildfires also got the rain.
