The General Chat Thread (2025)

Ocado and Kroger also have a working partnership here in the US, in the behind-the-scenes automatic warehousing area.
Yes the Ocado logistics and warehousing is the part of the business thats bringing in the coin. They’re also working with a large Spanish supermarket called Alcampo and whilst part of me doesn’t want Spain to modernise it’s shopping I wouldn’t mind them getting Ocado’s amazing stock control.

Well my Christmas supermarket delivery is now reserved and that means Christmas sporadically enters my thoughts in an official fashion for the next THREE FLIPPIN MONTHS 😱
I wish they wouldn’t release the slots until December!

But you don't get from warehouse direct food deliveries in the US.... I thought.
Kroger grocery and ready to make meal service delivery is offered here, but we don't have Kroger supermarkets locally, so...

For those of you that get deliveries, there isn't an opt out for substitutions? I know BJ's has a box to click for no substitutions and IIRC so did Wal-Mart the last time I ordered , but that was a good while back.

Yeah, most online grocery ordering methods do have that. At least the ones I've seen. And I was part of an e-commerce paid testing project recently where they all did.

I always do "no substitutions" when I order curbside on a personal level.

Here some do and some don’t.
Ocado and Morrisons don’t offer an option to opt out of substitutions where as Waitrose allow you to opt out or put down what you’d like as an alternative.
Waitrose also do not shy away from subbing the missing item with a more expensive substitute and won’t charge you the difference which is nice.

The thing is Ocado (and Morrisons until just now) warehouse management is unbeatable. Other supermarkets don’t come anywhere near close to Ocado close to giving you 100% of your full order with zero subs, and because their system is so efficient the dates on the food you receive is usually extremely long so the produce is super fresh. That’s hard to compete with.

Curbside called ‘Click n Collect’ here is great for being able to go into the shop before picking up the order and getting the alternatives you really want.
I find that very useful if something major is going to be missing thats going to mean a complete change dish because I can check before I collect and say no to the other ingredients I’ve ordered that have become redundant.

If Morrisons don’t sharpen up I’ll only be using them for occasional click and collects in the future because half your shopping missing makes the whole thing pointless.
