My youngest son returned from the festival full of beans. It was their first gig together and it couldn’t have gone better.
They were obviously on one of the smaller side stages in a marquee away from the main stage and understandably consumed with nerves, but they got going and had about 50 people watching, then by halfway through the marquee was so packed people were outside trying to get in. They had to put barriers up and staff on the entrance and apply a ‘one man in, one man out’ policy.
He said it got so packed out there you couldn’t see any green grass, only people.
He listened to my advice about festival people wanting to have a beat they can jump up and down to and shout along (see how I not so subtly take a little bit of undeserved credit there

) so some of the songs were deliberately easy to pick up and join in on. The audience apparently loved it and when they finished everyone was shouting for more and chanting the bands name.
They have been offered 5 more gigs off the back of it and one of the band members girlfriends (who along with my son is instrumental in doing the organising) was approached by someone who said “Hi you don’t know me but I know who you are. I’m from so n so records.
We don’t go to watch many bands, but you were recommended by someone we rate and I wanted to let you know they were right, it was well worth the trip” Apparently they’re now on a watch list.
My youngest has worked his arse off making this happen, he’s had some major setbacks and some really miserable moments along the way but he’s a very strong determined character so he did a head down and carry on, which has payed off.
Of course he’s not entirely satisfied, he said “We’ve played much better and we weren’t very together on some of it” but that sums him up really, always looking for improvement.
It’s so lovely he’s had some reward.
I feel very proud of him getting up there with all those eyes on him and still managing to give everyone what they want
