The humble date

Somebody told me, some years ago, that there are some 3,000 or so different varieties of dates, though I think there are only about 300/400 that are for eating. I like them as they come. I recall strolling down a street in Tunisia a few years ago that was lined with date palms. You could just walk along and pick them from the trees. That's about as fresh as you can get.
