The motorbike thread

Here is the problem with this state - or more to the point the legislators ... they legislate that pedestrians have right of way. In other words if some dumb ass walks against a red light at an intersection, the cars with right of way (the green light) have to stop and let them go ..... the insurance agencies love it!

Evidently red lights don't mean anything at intersections - it is totally insane and a great way to get people hurt of not killed. That applies to people on push bikes too. They don't have to abide by the rules of the road either ....

So SandwichShortOfAPicnic what is it about riding that you like, aside from the cliche "wind in the hair" thingy :)
Hmm so many things make it just the best pastime in the world.
Wind in your hair died with the helmet laws but I know what you mean and yes that’s a factor.
I think it’s the peace and quiet. Just you in your own head having all your thoughts blown away.
There’s a certain type of meditative state you reach which only happens on a motorcycle. It’s some sort of combination of having to be fully switched on and hyper aware of your surroundings (so you don’t get squished) and at the same time zoned out. I dunno it’s hard to describe but that pleasant hum you have after a ride is like some sort of drug that lasts way past the point the ride stopped, often days.

I also like the feeling of freedom. Unlike a car you get on a bike and start riding and it’s not necessarily to go anywhere, the riding is the thing you got on the bike for, the destination is often irrelevant. You can just go anywhere.
Every now n then (last one was last November) I set off on my bike with a couple of rough ideas about where I’d like to go and just make it up as I go along.
Usually I’ll finish a days ride (which can be as short as a couple of hours) and get the map out n look at what direction I fancy going the next day. Generally takes about 2-3 weeks before I would like to sleep in my own bed again.

They say travelling in car is like watching a movie and riding a bike is like being IN the movie. I think thats also true.

I could go on but that’s enough for now I think! 😂

At 15 you can get drivers license back in the day. I owned 2 cars and a suzuki 125.
At 16 I bought a triumph trident 750
That was when I knocked around with a bikie gang. My best friend had bros in the gang. Loved the feeling of power. That trident could lay a patch for sure. Thought about buying another but I need to be here for my grandkids.

You are a movie, with no ads to boot! 👍

One of these days I'd like to do what SandwichShortOfAPicnic is able to do - jump on the bike and just head out some where, any where. Stop where ever for the night when it starts getting late then pick up again the next morning and do it for 4 or 5 days or a week even. No plans - no nothing - just the ride :)
