1964 - Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., later known as Muhammad Ali, defeated Sonny Liston and became a world heavyweight champion.

I recall seeing some of his matches on TV while growing up.

Not that Ali wasn't a great athlete, but that's a weird type of historical date to pull out of the hat - saw that on a couple of on this day listings - sports dates innit

must be some or other ai bot spitting them out - like what about:
  • 1975 1st televised kidney transplant (Today Show)

or:
1095 Council of Rockingham: King of England William II clashes with Archbishop of Canterbury Anselm over papal allegiance, leading to Anselm's eventual exile until William's death in 1100

or
2000 - It was announced that Britney Spears would be releasing her own brand of bubble gum, "Britney Spears CD Bubble Gum," in March of 2000.

In the US:
• National Kahlua Day
• National Strawberry Day

UK:
[Real Bread Week] (Feb 21-March 1, 2026) A celebration of additive-free loaves and the people who make them.

You think I am a toast person? Maybe so. Your image is misleading though, as you have pictured toasted sandwiches. National toast day is about a slice of toast with something on it.
This made me laugh; my husband recently tried asking an AI whether an open-faced sandwich is still a sandwich. The AI told him “an open-faced sandwich is just toast with ambitions”
