The rivers around here are polluted from industry 50 years ago with those "forever chemicals". There are many carpet and flooring mills here and all that stuff that makes your carpet stain proof and easy to clean, it's what's in the water.
Higher than the rivers are many springs and they're okay to drink from. Lots of people get their drinking water from springs and the city water, pulled from the polluted river, is only used for washing and flushing.

Luckily no heavy industry or commercial farming upstream from me.
But it is changing with the Chinese coming in. Mining is starting everywhere and national parks are not excluded

I live in an area with some of the best tap water in the world. So that’s what I drink - no filtering or anything required, just straight out of the tap.
I use the same water for everything except watering the garden - I have a rain barrel for that.

Tap water here, same water as the garden. However, my husband put a filter in for the fridge and outside. I don’t really like to drink water from a plastic bottle.

Pristine minimally treated community pumped deep aquifer water. Some of the best quality water in the region. Very fortunate.

Reading thru the thread and seeing various comments, and also that you're downstream from the big dam on the big river, is the river is fast flowing where you are, so less potential issues with microorganisms etc? Planning to sink a borehole?

If I drank tap water here, I'd probably be dead within a week.
We buy 19 litre bottles of filtered water, or water from special, dedicated springs ( bit like Perrier, but cheaper, cos we've got more water than France).

We have a deep well with sweet water.
It goes through the refrigerator filter but I wouldn't be afraid to drink it straight.

I would boil it always. I would be a bit leery of pathogens.
I did know but perhaps there are solar uv purifiers or ones that plug into inverters

We carried a UV pen steriliser when cycling. It had its own solar recharger. That was always our first port of call for suspect tap water.
