Weather and other bits

Up until about 8 years ago when I was riding alpine (hardboot/race) snowboards, I rooted for cold weather every winter to have better snow conditions. For a variety of reasons, I hung it up. (Wife and kids lost interest, the slopes became more crowded every year, and lift ticket prices kept going up, not to mention I'd been hit three times by straight-line skiers so hard while I was making big GS turns down the mountain that in two instances, their bindings actually broke, and in one instance, it actually ripped completely off their ski.) I still love to cross-country ski, snowshoe, hike, and even backpack in the snow, but I am way more into summer. While typing this, I just checked out the current weekend lift ticket prices at our local mole hill. Holy shit, they're now $128!

That's cheap compared to the cost of the slopes here!

It only dropped to 22°C at home last night. By 7am, it was already 25°C and I am not looking forward today. I already feel crap but I need to get the assignment done, so I can relax over Christmas. The forecast for today is 38 °C. I think that is underestimating it. They had said it would drop to 12 °C overnight. They were 10 °C out here, though elsewhere it was closer to 17°C.

I already have my feet in a bucket of water and the ice-maker turned on. I can predict ice-cream, a cold shower and a lie down under a damp towel in the foreseeable future.

The beach/coast is due to be even hotter. And because I have eggs due to hatch this weekend, I can't leave the house knowing that we are also due thunderstorms. Loosing electricty will certainly kill them and my near 4 week old chicks still need heat overnight, and daytime if it is below 30C.

The only good news is that the new windows have improved ventilation considerably, and it no longer takes nearly as long for the house to reach outside temperatures at night. The downside as we found out this morning, looking at our weatherstation is that at 5am once it starts to warm up again, so does the inside of the house.

Luckily with these temperatures, the Christmas day forecast of 29°C will seem quite cool!

I saw your weather outlook in my app! 😲

I'm trying not to look at it. It is not helping me feel any cooler!
we're over 30C already and it is only 10:30am
Hell, I'd kill for the weather your getting - err figuratively speaking (I think :whistling:)

Then again, I lived in Darwin for 5 years before I came over here so heat doesn't bother me at all. The humidity does, not the temp :)

problem we have is that the humidity is sub 20%....
but we are getting very active looking storm clouds forming which is a problem when you are eggs due to hatch and a very tempermental power supply. Someone has to be home to turn the generator on!

0 humidity works for me but yes, there needs to be some moisture in the air. Believe me, I know what you mean by a "tempremental power supply". Our power supply company is about as reliable as the weather - you look at our power lines side ways and they go on strike :)

So we have the same problem, needing to have someone home to kick on the generator when needed :(
