What’s going on in your garden (2026)?

And there next batch of mushrooms is just starting.

Today I spent mostly under the lemon tree, digging.

Previously it was a mess of small nettles, runner grass, and rabbit holes. It was also uneven which meant that any rain or water drained away from the lemon tree and the trees met the ground as well.

So, needing to address the rabbit issues, I cut my way under the tree very carefully because it was alive with honey bees fighting between themselves over who got to get which flower, dug out the soil by 6 inches (15cm), leveled it, weeded, and then put rabbit proof wire down on the trunk to shed side, anchored it firmly, put dedicated citrus tree fertiliser down, put the soil back (hiding there white and yellow balls that would attract the chooks), levelled it and watered the tree.

(We don't know for definite but I'm likely allergic to bee and wasp stings having had an allergic reaction to a snake bite some 20yrs ago.)

Reading the instructions for the fertiliser, it says 500g of fertiliser per year's growth to a maximum of 10yrs, so basically 5Kg. I only had a half used 2½kg bag! The tree is +60yrs old, like most things in the garden. I'm also quite happy now that the trunk and the

So that took from 9am until 3pm today. It was hard work because I could only use a hand trowel, and in order not to damage roots too much, it was slow work carefully crawling around underneath the tree. It's had a bit of a prune as well, but I finally have the graft site back above the soil level (thank you rabbits).

I do now also have about 20 lemons in various stages of ripeness.

So this morning was spent harvesting figs. Apparently the season is still going...

And making another batch of fig molasses.

And the ripe tomatoes, plus accidental pickings whilst I was cutting the tomato vines back.

I'll carry on in the tomorrow. I still have seeds to plant, plants to plant, tubs to pot up and more.

Oh and my raspberry canes need taming!

Today was a long day in the garden.

First off, rescuing a bird called a Silvereye. It's a small bird, loves insects and fruit and this one was caught inside the fig tree netting. It took about 25 minutes to convince it to leave! I finally decided I'd take a photo of it, so it scarpered!

The plan had been to repot the bulbs that were in 2 containers. They've been there a while and there were lots of weeds. So I had hubby turn them out onto a tarpaulin and I set about finding the bulbs. To be honest, it was harder finding the soil! Hubby was in town, so I asked him to get another 3 identical containers plus bases, and some soil. He came home with 6 extra containers the same size (these are 40cm wide ones!) and all i can say is that I had to put too many bulbs into all 8 containers just to replant the bulbs alone. I totally forgot that I was meant to be digging up the blueberry bush in the been plot to move into one of the containers! 😆

I still have a blueberry, pomegranate and a lime tree that need replanting, not too mention the barberry... that should regain some space in the veg plot which will allow me to plant my winter crop.

So tomorrow I set about the veg plot...

I can finally contribute to this thread again - on Friday I started my tomato and pepper seedlings!

I got a new self-watering seed starting contraption for Christmas this year, so hopefully it works well. I started 4 jalapeno peppers, 8 golden pearl tomatoes, and 8 big rainbow tomatoes.
Yay Herbaceous!

I've brought my seedlings in for the night since it'll be cold but I can foresee planting in a couple of weeks!

My cucumbers are still alive, but only just.
I do think they improved a bit since I gave them some micronutrients.
Fingers crossed.
Yard long beans have sprouted and are doing well.
The peppers & chili peppers are still producing.
Custard apple & lime production is decreasing
Chives, basils and mint are ongoing

Yellow squash and my basil. This is my first year with this variety of squash, Dixie Hybrid. It's supposed to be more disease and sun tolerant. I've never had an issue with disease but the vine borers are plenty around here. I've a staggered planting routine to keep the harvest going and might try using pots as well so they're not in the ground.
