No. My mum didn't eat with us. She ate what we didn't. Our main meal was a free school lunch until she remarried when I was 8.
Tinned tomato soup with grated cheese in it and bramble jelly on toast are the main meals I remember but I know we obviously had other stuff because she grew veg in the front garden. I can remember the runner beans distinctly.
That’s us! You know those standard-sized Walker’s shortbreads, the skinny rectangular ones? She’ll eat one in three bites…bite, chew, swallow…bite, chew, swallow…but I just pop the whole thing in my mouth and have done with it.
Same with popcorn. She, like a madwoman, eats popcorn one piece at a time! Everyone knows you’re meant to grab a handful and cram it in your mouth, dropping little bits done the front of you!
