Young Ones they showed here, though you had to find it on MTV, but Bottom…OMG, definitely in the running of favorite show of all time. I absolutely love Rik Mayall (I know, I know…we’re talking about Ade here…) - I actually cried when he passed. I still get a lump in my throat when I catch him on TV unexpectedly.

Bottom caught me so off guard - had never heard of it, was just flipping channels, and happened to land on the very beginning of the first episode…seriously, what the hell is this?!?! Did he just hit that guy in the crotch…in the opening credits?!?!

The whole sex shop visit (“I’ll have you know I enjoy a rich and varied sex life!” - with his hand unknowingly clamped tightly around a giant todger on display :laugh: )…the whole condom scene with the flavors (“Strawberry-banana…peanut butter…cheese and onion - everybody likes cheese and onion, don’t they?!” :laugh: ) - my god, MrsT and I couldn’t stop laughing.

I especially loved Ade’s various responses to his unlikely surname (Hitler) - invariably, someone would ask, “Any relation?” and he’d say something unexpected, like, “To who?” or (spoken with far too much gusto), “YES!!!” :laugh:

I’m splitting my sides right now just thinking about it. Thank you!

They were/are both phenomenal powerhouses. I always felt they blew the comedy scene up at the time when it was so, so dull. Men in DJ’s telling jokes about their mother in laws and variety acts that had you half asleep before the credits.
Don’t get me wrong there were some absolutely genius’ stuff about as well, it’s just as a child when they appeared it couldn’t have been more refreshing.

Slapstick was all but finished before they plied their brilliantly grotesque trade!
 
Speaking of Bottom, I used to have a tape of their live show, and I was talking to an American friend about it, and he knew of The Young Ones, so he asked to borrow it.

Now, the live show was a lot…raunchier than the TV program, and when he gave it back a few days later, all he said was, “Take this back, I stopped watching after 10 minutes. Don’t ever talk to me again.” :laugh:

Well I always enjoy those defining moments in a friendship when you know they take life far too seriously and probably aren’t your cup of tea.

Here I have found the Brits tend to.not like the Scots.
I worked for a Scots guy and he was a top guy. Another Scots guy from our workingmens club is an a##hole. I just remember Another one. I couldn't understand a word he said. And I never tried .
There are a lot of poms here in Christchurch .

I think you missed my point. Scots are Brits.

Maybe the English don't like the Scots, but not the Brits.
 
When we lived there, we didn’t see a lot of Scots unfriendly with the English, but with some the Welsh toward the English…hooboy, there were some pretty vicious feelings there.

I do like Billly but at times I have found him hard to understand with his accent being so strong and my hearing not perfect.
I do not dislike the Scots at all.

To be honest I have never come across any issues with Welsh or Scottish people, a waiter in Barcelona however....
