What did you cook or eat today: August 2025?

Then I decided to make some "vadas", which are little balls of split pea/lentils mixed with spices, ginger and onion - a bit like falafel.

I soaked some yellow split peas over night. Couldn't find my regular green split peas, but I thought " same thing, different colour"
Wrong.
As soon as I started rolling the little balls into shape, I knew they wouldn't work. No cohesion at all. I managed to put one or two together, and this was the result:

Soooo, I dumped the whole lot into a large pan, added some water and a load more spices, and made a sort of dal soup, topped with crispy fried onions, cumin seeds and cilantro leaves.
Big up to you for showing the bits that don't work 😊

I think I am going to surprise my DH with some takeout Chipotle chicken bowls later, as I have a BOGO digital coupon. I rarely spend my own money on takeout food, it's nearly always a mystery shop with food reimbursement, but the BOGO is a good deal. We both get the same thing: brown rice, pinto beans, Adobo marinated grilled chicken, fresh tomato salsa, and lots of cheese and sour cream.

Blackened steak salad. Steak wasn't really blackened, just had blackening spice on it, then seared off in butter on stovetop. It's just too darn hot here to drag out the outdoor propane burner, tank, and cast iron grill to actually blacken. Rest of stuff on salad was baby Yukon Gold potatoes, roasted red bell pepper pieces, sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and gorgonzola cheese. Simple vinaigrette dressing using balsamic vinegar.

My ten year old, whiny little brat husband made a request for supper this evening:

Cut-up-pan-seared Hot Dogs, combined with American-style Macaroni `n Cheese (casserole style) with my addition of a veg, Buttered Corn-off-the-cob ... Sssssshhhh! Don't tell him that there's gobs of Butter mixed in, along with some Sea Salt & freshly cracked Black Pepper. He claims to hate Butter, yeah right Braddah!
This made enough for a small supper for my Mother as well... we're going over to her apartment tomorrow with a grocery haul for her, along with some other homemade meals that I froze for her.

Met with dee-lightful niece-in-law at a place called NY Beer Project - I had a crispy buffalo chicken sandwich and fries, MrsT had some kind of chicken sandwich with pesto and Parmesan on it, and our host had some sort of upscale turkey club sandwich.

Regular fries for me, they both had sweet potato fries with a brown sugar-cream cheese-cinnamon dipping sauce.
