What did you cook or eat today? (December 2025)

We were running around all day and stopped for an early dinner at a great restaurant we frequent once in a while. I had the chicken marsala, which was excellent.

I also tried a Tiramisu Imperial Stout, which I think must be the mother of all dessert beers, lol.

Southern Tier is one of my all-time favorite breweries.

But you went fishing. Did you catch fish?
Occasionally. I’ve never much enjoyed fishing. Grew up with it, though. I ended up doing more cooking (breakfasts, mainly…no fish!) and just visiting with my brothers.

I think the last one I officially attended, I never went out on any of the boats (they all own at least one boat each), I just stayed back at the campsite and farted around until it was time to eat.

Those tourneys were hilarious, though. Lots of drinking and carrying on. One year, three of them got arrested. That was funny. Lee started the whole thing, so it was all very ceremonial, starting with the Blessing of the Boats, ending with the crowning of King Fish, where we all had to give offerings to the winner and prostrate ourselves before him and swear Fish Fealty, and an elaborate points system, various trophies for different things, we all had secret tourney names that could be used only at the tourneys and could never be spoken outside of the tourneys. All kinds of hilarious stupid crap that only five drunk brothers could think up.

As to what we finished with tonight…tea and little Italian cookies.

I made some canneloni, stuffed with ricotta and spinach. The canneloni shells were "oven-ready", so I made sure to add plenty of tomato sauce before baking.
'orrible, too dry - next time I'm going to drown the blighters in tomato sauce and add another litre for good measure.

I’ve made that before that way (and jumbo shells, etc) and the recipes I’ve followed usually add in a fair amount of water as well. It doesn’t come out watery or tasting thin, either. It works.

The rain stayed away for long enough, so satay it was

JAS_OH1 HEY GIRLIE!!! Where'ya been? I remember you two were traveling, what did you folks eat along the way?
But to answer your question, we ate smoked brisket and smoked turkey at my cousin's house and I cooked a bit at my brother's house (steak and lobster with prosciutto wrapped asparagus and deconstructed sushi bowls with salmon another night) and takeout pizza and wings. At my daughter's house in Austin we had smoked turkey and fixings for Thanksgiving. At my sister's we went to a steakhouse called Saltgrass that was very good.

We go home tomorrow to the bitter cold!
