What did you cook or eat today (February 2026)?

Tea was an edited version of last night, with the addition of garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, alleppo chilli powder and flakes and tamari. It was much improved.

Tomatoes and cucumber from the garden.

Lunar/Chinese New Year Spread.

In celebration of the lunar and Chinese New Year a number of stir-fries served up. If I had more time perhaps there would have been steamed fish, slow roasted and/or braised meat.

- Beef in Black Bean Sauce
- Stir-fried Prawns in Oyster Sauce
- Noodles and Bean Sprouts with Soy and Sesame Oil
- Sesame Seed Prawn Toast
- Venison Stir-Fired in Hoisin (no photo)
- Stir-Fired Vegetables with Ginger, Garlic & Sesame Oil
- All washed down with a Verdejo from Spain; with a (winged) horse on the bottle - for year of the horse.

Yes please :hungry:

Mom's birthday today so I made her Melanzane a Funghetto (Italian Eggplant and Tomatoes) on a bed of fusilli with some homemade sauce. Excluding the pasta all that came from the garden last year. Mine looked more like it dropped out of an airplane then to the plate, alongside was a bit of braised pork chop and some green bean almondine.

Did she enjoy? Sounds good to me.
Yes, she said it looked good and tasted good too. Win win.

She's 87 now and doesn't cook much more than a baked potato, boiled vegetable, and always a piece of pork loin or chicken. Salts the cra* out of everything and that's it so I try to make her things more involved than boiled and salted. 😃

That's great. Maybe the over salting is due to failing taste buds. Thankfully mine show no signs if waning yet, although I find chilli tastes...well... hotter than it did.
