What did you cook or eat today (February 2026)?

Oldest stepson's birthday, he still doesn't like much aside from pancakes, fries and pizza. So we ordered snacks for dinner.

I had fries with spicy chilli mayo and a vegetarian croquette

Easy to make pork carnitas with refried black beans. Cotija cheese, salsa verde and cilantro.

Cooked 36 jars of hot honey.
After that, I went to the Chinese takeaway and bought Bhudda fried rice, chicken with mushrooms, spring rolls, and Singapore noodles.
I've got enough left over for tomorrow.
And Tuesday.
And probably Wednesday as well.

One of our friends and neighbor lost his mom this week. To offer my condolences, I promised him dinner tonight. I didn't mention what, but I made him one of my favorites, a classic Beef Bourguignon. It's a 5-hour process, but it's been raining all day and I like to cook, so I was glad to make it for he and his wife.

Just before going into the oven.

You can't make this French classic without making homemade mashed potatoes. Pressing them through a sieve, here, with the back of a ladel.

First look out of the oven, before resting the beef and filtering the sauce.

Sauteing aromatics to be added back to the sauce. I used boiler onions this time, which are harder to find and I believe are more authentic, instead of the more common pearl onions.

The final finale just before we walked it over. They were super appreciative!
