What did you cook or eat today (February 2026)?

Oldest stepson's birthday, he still doesn't like much aside from pancakes, fries and pizza. So we ordered snacks for dinner.

I had fries with spicy chilli mayo and a vegetarian croquette

One of our friends and neighbor lost his mom this week. To offer my condolences, I promised him dinner tonight. I didn't mention what, but I made him one of my favorites, a classic Beef Bourguignon. It's a 5-hour process, but it's been raining all day and I like to cook, so I was glad to make it for he and his wife.

Just before going into the oven.

You can't make this French classic without making homemade mashed potatoes. Pressing them through a sieve, here, with the back of a ladel.

First look out of the oven, before resting the beef and filtering the sauce.

Sauteing aromatics to be added back to the sauce. I used boiler onions this time, which are harder to find and I believe are more authentic, instead of the more common pearl onions.

The final finale just before we walked it over. They were super appreciative! 👍

That's a righteous endeavor and an awesome looking meal. 🙏

We had 2 dosa filled with different contents.

I'll try to name them later.

Can't identify the furthest away, but it looks a bit like tomato chutney. sambhal in the middle, and coconut chutney at the bottom. Classic with dosas - which are close to the best things on earth!

OK - the first was

Medu Vada: Doughnut-shaped deep-fried fritters made with Black Lentil, curry leaves and other spices.

Then we had 2 dosai with different fillings (which I can not find on their website). One was gunpowder something or other, and the other was an onion something or other - the dosai were made with fermented rice and urid dahl, served with tomato and coconut chutneys.
