What did you cook or eat today: July 2025

Homemade tomato soup with some garden fresh tempura fried shishito's and eggplant. Ozzie only ate the breading off his eggplant...

Looks awesome, I like that place. I want to go again to get a good steak, but I don't have anyone to go with ☹️
I don’t know if there’s any other reason besides not liking to eat alone, but MrsT is like that. She absolutely will not go to a restaurant by herself, she feels like everyone is looking at her.

I, OTOH, would usually prefer to go alone, as everything’s on my terms - where I’m going, how long I’m staying, etc.

It’s a shame, though, you don’t have a dining partner. One of our goals when we eventually move to our retirement area is to establish a little dining club, so to speak.

Oh, that's supposed to be tapas, not topless. 😂
We like tapas because they are small plates/servings of multiple dishes. They can be fairly simple like last night, even something like serrano ham, with a thin slice of manchego and a fig jam or something similar, or more complex like

Wine and Ham Croquettes

Or

Mini Meatballs in Saffron Sauce

We went to a newish tapas place recently and I think I posted in the What would you chose thread. Let me look. Yep!

What would you choose?

You can see there is pretty much something for everyone. We had the pork belly, duck, churrasco, mushrooms, and patatas bravas that I can remember off top of my head.

We love tapas as well. Since there are loads of Spanish immigrants here in Venezuela, there's a great choice of restaurants for tapas as well.
We spent 5 days in Barcelona back in 2015, and we only once sat down for a "full meal" - tapas all the time, and more or less at any time of the day or night.
