It was an all-Aldi night - pretzel bites with cheese dip and a fruits of the forest strudel.

Marinaded fried chicken sandwich with a homemade garlic aioli. One with good ol' American cheese and one with Swiss, served with more of that pasta salad I made the other day. These were incredibly delicious!

So I did some cooking.

Ratatouille with whole field mushrooms cooked slowly in oil and dairy free butter, with broad beans.

I know what you're thinking MG, that basil leaf should be attached. It was before my plate was moved, honest!

I wasn't thinking that at all. On the contrary. Its visually better for food photography( and for eating, I would argue) to scatter herbs rather than plant a sprig. So it would look better if the leaves were all detached!

Craig smoked a pork shoulder for pulled pork yesterday. He had a sandwich I prefer just the meat. He wanted baked beans, so I had a little bit, really not my thing even though we doctor them up with a mirepoix, dry mustard, brown sugar, and a bit of ketchup. A mustard based BBQ sauce and purchased potato salad.

Finally found my preferred rice:water ratio for making congee on my third time in. Ends up that 1:8 meets my expectation and I don't end up with a ginormous amount.

Chicken congee with a chopped Serrano, roasted Big Jim, diced onion, and a bit of Chipotle seasoning. My stomach is liking this!
