What did you cook or eat today? (October 2025)

Last night I had a dream about lobster.
It's Lobster Season here in Caracas at the moment. The restaurant I cooked at last month is doing a special lobster menu; lobster rolls in a brioche bun, lobster Thermidor, lobster vermicelli, lobster grill...
I think I might just see whether me and the wife can get down there for a faceful of lovely lobster...
The place I'm currently working with: chef told me today they've got through 120 kgs of lobster since last Friday :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
 
The carrots were an absolute horror. Reminded me why some people hate carrots, the worse most overcooked canteen style carrots you could possibly endure
I just cannot understand how anyone, in the whole wide world, can screw up cooking carrots. Unfathomable.

There's a question that vegans often get asked and tonight i find myself asking it as well.

Hubby cooked our evening meal. Cauliflower, carrots, asparagus with the tahini and herbs dressing.

"Where's the protein?" I carefully enquired.
"It's what we had last night..."
"Minus the leeks, the mushrooms, the peanut butter and the tofu dish"...

Protein was eaten later...

Oh yes, and somehow they'd manage to find gigantic carrots with saw-like cores..

Back on topic 😜

A ready meal from M&S Cumberland pie. Tasted the mince part and thought oh this is quite nice, I like it. Then tasted the mash🫤
Scraped it off and if that really was cheese on top it was the most tasteless cheese I’ve ever had.
But there was also ‘Mash Direct’ mash swede to go with which is a very nice side dish, especially with a bit of butter on it so it was all A ok.

Last night we went out for my wife’s birthday. I had the key lime lobster tail. It was delicious. She lived her fish. We have been to this place probably a dozen times in the past 20 years. It’s down on the gulf coast. Always been satisfied. Last night was exceptionally good. The service was as good as you can get.
