Hey, spiny lobster aren't ugly. The 2 species I mentioned in a previous post are ugly, AKA giant cockroach looks. There are also some smaller ones called Spanish/spotted lobster. They are quite pretty. They have tiny polka dots all over them. They are mostly nocturnal.
When we were younger, we'd catch so many that we'd get tired of lobster.
It's illegal in Florida to take any kind of lobster or crab with a spear gun. They have to be caught with a hand, a tail snare or a net for sport divers, or traps with a commercial license. I'm sure other states have similar laws.oops. My bad.
The ones I am thinking about were whiteish looking with legs all over the place. I thought they were spiny lobster, but must have been something else. They were caught using a spear gun.

I was a fantastic spotter and a decent catcher. Craig was a good spotter and a fantastic catcher. We always came back with a few and fairly often with our limit. So, we'd give to friends and neighbors and/or stop catching them for a while. Diving was a Saturday and/or Sunday regular weather permitting activity for many years, and we always hunted with spear guns and lobster equipment when they were in season, and very, very, very rarely didn't get something. Even if we didn't see a fish we wanted for ourselves, there were a couple of species that a coworker of Craig's loved and he was always appreciative when we got something for him.I can't imagine getting tired of lobster.
