What did you cook or eat today? (October 2025)

What's HH food?
Happy hour. Lots of places here designate 4 p.m. to 6 or 7 p.m. as happy hour and lower drink prices or 2 for 1 drinks. There is generally a happy hour menu with slightly lower prices and/or smaller portions for a lower price.

From a ready mix. Just add water, let stand. Then deep fry
Obviously, I had to tinker with it and added kashmiri chili powder to it

There is a thread on canned chili elsewhere's... and I've never tried it straight up. I had only used it in a dip I make once in a great while. Well, I tried Wolf's several months ago and it wasn't bad.

A while back I saw Jack Link's on a shelf for $4. Yowza. Pricey. But surely the famous jerky maker could turn out a decent can of chili. Right? Wrong.
I knew I wasn't in for a treat when the smell wafted towards me when I popped the can. So it was no surprise there was an underlying flavor of something with each bite... 🤔
Decent chew/texture, but odd flavor. And I've had some pretty flavorful chilis.

But edible.

I have a decent stockpile of store-bought canned chili, among other foods in my prepper pantry for reasons. My wife always ripped on me for buying it until a couple of years back when we were having a bunch of people over, and she had made a big batch of homemade chili. Just before everyone arrived, she began to panic that it might not be enough and asked me to bring up one of the 1 gallon cans, which she dumped in with her homemade chili while declaring, "If you ever tell anyone about this, I will kill you", lol! Well, the chili was a hit and a couple of people actually raved about it and asked her for the recipe! We laughed all night about it, and until now, I've kept zipped lips... 🤣

A quick snap before the rest of the table was laid because time was knocking on and everyone was hungry.

Egg and cress, Smoked salmon and cream cheese, Cucumber and dill, Roast beef and horseradish and Prawn n Crab.
Scones and some haphazardly baked and iced lemon fairy cakes.

Amendments would be -
Hide the bread I bought for the sandwiches a couple of days ago, the gannets had left four slices and the bread they were supposed to eat wasn’t really the right kind!
Amend Nicky Excell’s lemon fairy cake recipe so they can rise evenly.
Not start the whole thing when I’ve been for a massage cos whether the icing actually made it onto the cakes was no longer of any interest to me and I looked like the Swedish chef mixing the cake batter 😂

Just got back from the club. We made 14 different dishes today and served them all to the guests for the Tasting Night. All approved with honours. Festival for 2 days next week, where we will be serving around 150-180 guests over two days. Magnificent, even if Venezuelans can't take lots of chiles!

Venezuela in the news a lot....even down here. Will donald go in ??
