What did you cook or eat today (September 2025)?

Last nights chicken
Brined for 24 hours then cooked covered tightly with foil and water in the tray underneath for steaming, then foil removed and smoked for the last 20 mins. Best chicken I’ve ever cooked, so juicy and tasty. I hit the giddy heights of comments like “Oh my god, what did you do to this chicken?” ❤️

Had it with some chopped salad and made a mustard dressing which is the best dressing I’ve ever made so I was thrilled with my two hits.
I was not so thrilled this morning when I realised the cooking with gin fun I had last night meant I’m not sure how I made the bl**dy dressing 😂

They can keep the bloomin’ spam 😂
I was told the same thing about Nepal and Tibet but the lack of understanding about what gluten is meant I couldn’t be confident about the answers I was getting. They would politely tell me what they thought I wanted to hear and would say things like yes, yes it has gluten, then when I managed to communicate I didn’t want gluten they’d say oh no no gluten 🤣
When did you go to those places? Did you motorbike it there?

Flew and hired bikes in Kathmandu, part of the first all woman expedition to motorbike through the Himalayas to Mount Everest. It was a blast (a very hairy might not make it out of here alive type blast) but I ended up mostly living on plain rice for a month 😂
Trying to get anyone to understand soy sauce has wheat in it was a lost cause 🤣

That sounds epic and the hair-raising nature of it I can imagine! (Next time pack a bottle of tamari :))

I haven’t been to those places; they’re on my list.

I took my own soy sauce and tabasco 😂
It made eating rice every day just about tolerable.
After 3 weeks I did get an omelette, I’ll never taste an omelette that good ever again 😆

Last night, shrimp, usually mixed with calamari, but not last night, with finely shredded carrots and chopped, seeded cucumbers, with a kimchi base and honey dressing, plus Recipe - Sushi Kushi with aioli drizzle . I used a ring mold, but then accidentally hit the stack with the spoon I was using for the aioli and timber!

I thought as I’ve made the tuna using Medtrans recipe I should say it’s a great recipe. We all really enjoyed it.

This is Medtrans tuna on Karadekoolaids cucumber jelly with trout caviar last year.
