What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

I just got back from "the city" and hit up a chain grocery store. I knew the town store would not come through on some of the items.
I picked up a filet mignon for something I've been wanting to try. As well as some mushrooms and a few other items. I had forgotten what it's like to be inside a real grocery store.
Best thing was it didn't cost me a cent. Because I'm an old man and it's the start of a new quarter for my old man card

So where do you go if it's not a real grocery store? I make an occasional run to Dollar General as a fuel trade off by not going into town...

I go to one of the dollar stores for pop (soda) and milk. As the town grocer carries a brand that tastes funky. And their pop is a buck less per bottle. I think we have three of those dollar stores in town. Which is the number of traffic lights down main st
But pretty much everything else that's edible I buy at the town grocery store.

It's semi-dirty, they don't even pay their help minimum wage (not sure how they get away with that), the mushrooms are slimy and the veggies look like they were bought at a scratch and dent sale.
And most of their jarred, packaged or canned stuff is well above normal pricing. Which is fine if I only need cream, which I had forgotten earlier today, but their Tahini is 3 bucks more a bottle than Wally World... which is on the way to the closest chain store (Giant Eagle).

They do have good cheap meat though. If you don't want a filet. But zero seafood unless it's frozen.

Every time I go there are less and less cars in the parking lot.
But I admit I shop there a lot because it gives me the convenience of a four minute drive and split second dinner changes.

Gotcha. Main street here, Broad Street, has 3 or 4 lights. We've got 2 Walmarts, a Kroger, and a Publix. That's it for chain type groceries and I frequent the Mexican Market, Morelo's. Morelo's is that one that looks like a hardware store of spices and they've got meat choices most peeps don't even know about. 👍

Two Walmarts in a small town?
You must be the center for a lot of shoppers.
