What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

A few edibles that we're bringing home with us.

Vegan Nutella i can't get in Australia, and didn't get as far as opening in the UK.

Braised tofu i love and can't get in Australia. My sister bought me some and have it to us on our last day.

We can get golden syrup in Australia, but it's brown and tastes different and the pikelets are not the same. We used to be able to buy Lyle's golden syrup when we first arrived but sadly we can't any more.

The same for our vegan stock powder. We've found that once it is opened, if we transfer it to a kilner jar, it stays fresh much longer. We can get it, but only through iHerb and it's pricey. We've not yet found an alternative.

The coffee is the obtaining instant coffee we like, so my mum stocked us up!

Finally the tea is a slightly long story of hubby trying to find a herbal tea in the UK that he liked, then forgetting to take it with him multiple times and having to but it again... no one else wanted it, so given how light it is, it came with us! :laugh:

I wonder why yours is brown? I’d assume that it was licensed and made in-country and maybe the ingredients are slightly different or something, but it seems that it’s all made in one place.

Maybe they’re burning yours?!

I’m buying some next time I can get to it!

It's a different make in Australia. They stopped getting the Lyle's brand in. Australian brands of golden syrup are all brown, not golden.

When I get home, and am more human, and have caught up on the studies I've missed today, tomorrow and likely Wednesday, I'll get you a photo but in the mean time, it's on a clear plastic container.

I needed some Golden syrup a few years back and, since trying to find that in Venezuela would be akin to looking for a gold-breasted oomigooli bird, I decided to make some myself. It was more or less a PITA to make, but it was OK, and didn't involve many ingredients. It just took time. I suppose if I'd decided to make it 10 times over, it would have got a whole lot easier.
Haven't got the recipe with me here in Atlanta, but I'd be happy to post it in 12 days' time when I'm back home.
