I need to be more disciplined about harvesting mine in the summer and I won't run out. I'm surprised, given the time of year, that you can find live plants!
They have these year round. I don't like them. I think the flavor is too bland and mostly small.
I like the bags of basil leaves or the clamshells of leaves. Those are large, mature leaves that are bursting with flavor. My one kitty LOVES fresh basil. She will come and nag me (tapping and pulling my arm) for the loose leaves. She smells it from three rooms away. But when I use the basil plant, she doesn't even blink. Guess she prefers the loose leaves also.

I think this year I'll be okay. I've got a quart jar full of dried leaves and I don't know how many quarts of tomato sauce put up with fresh basil. I've got some in the freezer but too lazy to look for it.

Supermarket garlic has been miserable of late, but luckily there's an alternative option nearby now and this was the choice. (I'm out of homegrown garlic, waiting for the next season to be ready to harvest).

I just planted mine a week ago and should have enough to just make it until harvest. 🤞
