Whatcha drinking (2025)?

A lot of it has to do with money. For example, we have a lovely park in Cincy…they host outdoor events, art shows, movies under the stars, they have a dog park, Shakespeare in the Park, etc.

For the longest time they had the standard sign up about alcohol strictly prohibited, giant fines and possible jail time, all to preserve the peace and family atmosphere…until the parks board built a swank craft beer & artisan cocktails bar with drinks at a premium price and then some, then it became legal to have a drink in the park…but only if purchased from them, no outside alcohol allowed, subject to the same penalties as before.

The legal “entertainment zones” are the same way, no outside alcohol. A lot of events are like that as well.

Depending on where you’re at and how you’re behaving, it may or may not be an issue. I live on a dead-end rural(ish) road with 24 houses. No through street, no shops, just us residents, some cows, and some cornfields.

Technically, I can’t open a beer and walk three houses down to my neighbor’s. It’s illegal, as soon as I leave my property (that’s, I’m assuming, how kaneohegirlinaz got picked up in Hawaii).

However, no one worries about that because everyone is well-behaved and the likelihood of a cop showing up is almost zero. I’ve made pitchers of drinks for my neighbor, I’ve walked countless beers over and back, bottles of whiskey, etc.

But if I were to go stumbling through my neighborhood making a drunken nuisance of myself, someone could call the cops, and I’d get ticketed for (I’m assuming) public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and violating the open container law.

We go on picnics, and I bring things to drink (like a split of champagne, or two cocktails in a small thermos), but we’re very, very careful where we consume it, and how we behave, and we haven’t had a problem yet, and I’d expect, if we got caught, we’d likely be told to “just be discreet,” maybe someone a little more gung-ho might tell us to pour it out. If we were teens, we’d likely get that (well-deserved) conk on the head and the opportunity to visit the local police station’s accommodations for a few hours.
I don’t like it TR.
If someone’s being a nuisance due to intoxication there are already plenty of laws that cover that.
Spoiling everyones fun and making people feel like they have to sneak alcohol in isn’t a very nice thing to do to your citizens.

Most venues here have the same rules as yours though, if they sell alcohol you’re not allowed to bring any in with you so they can charge you triple the normal price and make you queue for half an hour to get it but a lot of people myself included will ignore that. If I’ve brought food with me I’ll bring something nice to drink with it.

There are some events where they’ll say “No Glass” but they simply request you decant whatever you want to drink into different vessel. I don’t own a soda stream but I really like their bottles for that purpose.

I notice that all the bike events I’ve been to never prohibit you bringing your own alcohol, I think because they know it would be pointless and they’d spend a lot of time arguing with people. Most of those events also give you free ‘beer’ tokens with your ticket which is nice.

Washington Park? When my son lived in Race St (100 yds from the park), I'd take the dog there, let him run around, fetch a beer and enjoy the atmosphere.

Yup, that’s the one. I was never so simultaneously pizzed off and thrilled when they started selling booze there - “Hey, yes, the new bar’s open! A Sam Adams Summer Ale, please!”

“Sure…that’ll be $17, thanks.”

Orange Drop aka Martini made with freshly squeezed Cara Cara Oranges - meh - it's okay I suppose, but I expected more of an Orange Punchy taste. I gave DH a sip and he said that I'm nuts, "I taste the Orange loud and strong, but that Vodka ... it's still burning my throat.

Not drinking much yet, just tea.
But about to make some bitters according to a recipe that Barriehie posted. And a question about it, thought this was as good a place as any to ask:
Is this whole or ground spices, except for the star anise (those are whole if I remember correct)?

Ground and yes, star anise are whole. 👍

Nice little sauvignon blanc whilst smoking the char sui pork for a mango and cucumber noodle salad tomorrow.

Yes I'm drinking it out of a picardie glass because I've discovered that for some reason out here a lot more wine glasses get broken.

It's a mystery and absolutely nothing to do with cooking in the outdoor kitchen causing a lot more CUI's (Cooking Under the Influence)
