I’m having another go at it and I can’t find a way to like it.
Looked up whats in it that my nose doesnt like.

These compounds consist of number of phenols (coal smoke), two furan aldehydes (sawdust and cereal) and series of alkanes (paraffin and other flammable gas), and aromatic hydrocarbons (diesel).

I had said to Mr SSOAP this smells like fuel!

Edumicated heh? 😉

It confirmed I really, really dislike peaty whisky. I persevered but didn’t finish the glass. It smells carcinogenic!
Medicinal, not carcinogenic.:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Islay single malts are definitely an acquired taste.
Perhaps a wee dram o Glenmorangie would be more ta yu likin? :D

I actually spent 4 days on Islay, back in 2001. we toured the Laphroaig distillery, but I tried every single one of the single malts there: Laphroaig, Lagavullin, Ardbeg, Caol Ila (VERY peaty) Bowmore, Bruichladdich and Bunnahabhain. I'd say the last one was the least peaty.
You definitely need to go Speyside; smoother, sweeter perhaps, sometimes even fruity, depending on the finishing cask.

Distillery tours are great fun 🤩
I just seem to have an aversion to the smell of peaty whisky.

For me it's Johnnie Walker Double Black Label or an aged Glenlivet 😋

These guys were 40% off so bought to stash for a rainy day. Over here, where alcohol is stupidly expensive you gotta look out for such deals (and even with those discounts I'd wager they still cost more than the UK or US).
