I’ve been noticing over the last couple of years that chicken smells really bad. While cooking and afterwards. It’s always perfectly fresh - that’s not the issue. But chicken just always seems to smell disgusting. I’ve just thrown away two chicken legs because they smelled so unpleasant.

I’ve been noticing it with KFC too so it’s not just the way I’m cooking it.

Might it be a menopause thing?? Have my hormones suddenly made me sensitive to something?

Hi, welcome!

I don’t have much issue with boneless, skinless breasts - they’re so bland on their own, they don’t smell much like anything.

Roasting a whole chicken in the oven…not too bad there, either.

Frying chicken, bone-in and skin-on, that smells so bad while it’s cooking, it’s part of the reason I do that only once a year (or less). Tastes great when it’s done, smells like a rotting carcass while it’s frying, Poaching chicken smells similarly bad to me.

Places like KFC and Popeyes…yeah, they smell awful, also, so I don’t think it’s just you.

See I think it tastes bad too! Roasting a whole chicken is slightly better but I can still only really eat the breast. It’s the bits that have been near the bone that smell bad it seems.

But I never used to have a problem!

Oh, I have that too after COVID. All meat smells just awful... I hope it goes away someday...😥
