The buttons are handmade and are in the style of the old telephone number in the UK, so my mother's memory of where and when she purchased them could be correct!

Just got home from tonight’s music lesson, they’re trying to talk me into performing at their recital in 2 weeks and I’m not quite sure I’m ready to be playing in public yet!

This is my ukulele. It’s a Kamaka and is from 1954 or earlier. It was my grandfather’s, and it’s so nice for it to be making music again.

Congrats, your instructor has confidence in you, that’s a good thing. I recommend you go, just to show that uke off if nothing else (but you’ll enjoy it too, once you’re in the moment) - Grandad wants to go!

Of course you're ready. Go for it. Once you've played in public once, you'll never stop!:bravo::bravo::bravo::bravo:

Herbaceous wow! That sure is a looker. That’s surely worth a pretty penny. If soda kinda looks like it’s made of Koa Wood, which if I recall correctly given the time frame that you think that it was made, that would be correct.
The Kamaka Family lived in Kaneohe Hawaii as well. Not very far from my home.
I went to school with the kids and one kid was my doctor for years.

Thanks! Like I mentioned, it belonged to my grandfather (although we’re not really quite sure when or where he got it). He died over 20 years ago, and for most of that time, it’s just sat around gathering dust, first in my grandmother’s possession, then in my mom’s.

A few years ago I saw it sitting at my parents’ place - body cracked, bridge lifting, strings all out of place - and asked my mom if I could take it to get it fixed up. I had my local music shop restore it, and after that, mom said I could keep it. It’s nice to have it singing again!
