AI (Artificial intelligence) wrecking food writers websites.

In the nicest possible way I don’t think the people on this forum are your average joe.
First off it’s a topic we’re all very into so reading one recipe wouldn’t be enough research for most of us, we’re far more likely to use multiple resources and more likely to want to hear it straight from the horses mouth.
Secondly the vast majority of folk on here are bright and appear to be educated to quite a high degree so understand how to do research well. That includes grasping the importance or usefulness of the quality of the resource. The sort of folk on here are the sort of people who would use Wikipedia knowing it was an unreliable source and check whatever it said.

A lot of people don’t. As the article points out the website owners are able to see their info has been used but it’s not translating into people visiting their site. You can only conclude that most folk are satisfied with the AI answer and not looking any further.

I use AI and like MG find it a useful shortcut for somethings. I’ve also noticed that it’s improved enormously and at quite a speed.
Mr SSOAP said that’s ridiculous, one of the things a computer can’t do is taste anything 😂

I think what scares me most about AI is that the loudest voices get most attention.... And then it becomes true (for AI).
Of course AI doesnt shout but if enough people would copy and post and say that 2 + 2 equals 5* then thats what AI sees most and will let people know. They will repost and after a while (most) people will say/think that 2 + 2 equals 5

*I thought it was better to use a mathematical example here

I mostly try not to think about it because the whole thing is scary.
Especially now AI is teaching itself and able to write its own code. Previously it was heavily supervised and required a lot of human input and now a lot of that learning is from reinforcement. What conclusions is it going to come to and should this have ever have been uncorked?

I find the fact it decodes enormous gene sequences that would take humans many years to do just one of and has 9.3 trillion nucleotides banked astonishing. It’s able to identify disease and predict how mutated genes work. It’s even able to design new functions.
It will from a medical perspective be absolutely revolutionary. Cures and medications for all sorts of diseases are a lot closer than was ever dreamt of. Interesting times.

When I first encountered AI answers appearing on google I said to Mr SSOAP this will wreck the sites the AI has taken the information from, people who don’t understand why it’s important to research from credible sources will read the AI mashed together stuff and not actually visit the site it’s taken from, it’s too convenient to bother. That ultimately AI will control the narrative and those content producers won’t be able to make a living and disappear, we’ll lose the people who actually have the reliable knowledge.

Well honestly who knows exactly what’s going to happen, it all seems quite frightening but the site traffic slowing on recipe writers sites seems to be a predictable turn of events.

I realise this is potentially a contentious topic so I would ask that there’s no ranting or raving about modern life, the youth of today etc and we stick to just politely discussing what people think about it and where they think it’s all heading.

Google AI summaries are ruining the livelihoods of recipe writers: ‘It’s an extinction event’
I think AI is the second worst thing to happen to the world after the internet itself. I would love to see it fail but I'm certainly confident that will happen. And yet I made my living on the internet for 25 years.

It's going to weaken the gene pool and it will only be "as intelligent" as the feedback it gets from the people using it. It's going to "dumb down" the users.

Dunno
When this whole internet thing started, it was pretty awesome.
Like a giant library you could access, even in the remote parts of the world.
So much info!
But then the algoritims came and showed people only things that enforced what they already believed in. No opposing views, just staying in your own bubble, enfoorcing your own views.
I think somthing went wrong there

Agree with all of that.

I see the internet as a vast resource; but like any resource, you have to be able to discern what's good, what's bad and what's just useless.
AI, on the other hand, I find a bit sinister. It's teaching itself; it's developing on the basis of our knowledge, and then multiplying that until, perhaps, it will be out of control.
I just hope I'm not around when it takes over the world!

Given the corporations that manipulate the Internet that's all it's ever going to be.

AI is cheaper than peeps...
Yerp.
Unless the UBI - universal basic income stuff (you get paid a certain amount to stay out of work) is successful then angry revolution is on the cards.
Governments know this and it’s all on trial.
Strange times.
If I’m coming across as a tin foil hat wearer then please do google/bing/duckduckgo it yourself.
