• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

Alphabetic town and related food game

Last year my kids took us to a supermarket, maybe Foodland, where got to sample all kind of Poke.
I buy food from Foodland too. Idid stay in Hawaii for a month back in 2018, on the way to Tahiti.
That's Foodland alright!
We always stay on Oahu for a minimum of 30 days when we go back home.

K is also for Kampala (Uganda).
One part of town (Kabalagala) had great food and nice pubs.
And there was a Belgian (refugèe from Rwanda) butcher with the most amazing paté and other cold meats. I still miss that place at times!
The adjacent restaurant "le Chateau" did equally good food

London, of course. Home to the most diverse restaurant scene in the world, IMO. I remember eating authentic Thai food, Indian, Sri Lankan, Burmese, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Turkish, Cypriot, French , Greek, Italian, Spanish and English (of course) last time I was there.
Memorable meals? Indian food at Moti Mahal in Covent Garden, prepared by the Indian PM's former chef. Busabai Thai food in Soho, Cay Tre ( a divinely cooked butter fish), also in Soho, Doner kebabs at midnight along the Tottenham Court Rd. Unusual Burmese food in the Edgeware Rd. Classic French Bistro fare at Zedel's, in Piccadilly, posh fish and chips in Mayfair and down to earth Scampi & chips in the Montagu Pyke, formerly the Marquee Club.
Lisbon: I spent very little time there, but had lunch in the Mercado, a huge warehouse type place with loads of gourmet restaurants. Cod with greens and potatoes, perfectly cooked.
La Asunción, Margarita. An invitation to eat at Langar, opened by my chef friend Sumito. I remember we had sardines and Barracuda with a mustard sauce.

L is for London but my best and memorable Indian restaurant was near Heathrow airport. We stayed at a Marriott near there for a few days, we walked to this Indian place near an alley, so many American Jazz players were there, we knew it was a very good place, not your average curry place in London.
I remember the large curry prawns, I mean colossal, in some lite type of curry sauce. But after COVID, we couldn’t find it anymore. In fact we couldn’t find a lot of our favorite Indian restaurants anymore.

L is for Luxembourg, capitol of Luxembourg.
Unfortunately the food was not very exiting

L is also for Leiden, beautiful old town. I think Windigo went there not too long ago

K is vor Kota Kinabalu, Borneo, or at least a luxury resort on an island off its coast. The beach bar did an incredibly addictive seafood pizza, all local catch with a cheese sauce and grated cheese on top of a tortilla. The pizzas were shared with the local wild pigs who used to come round scrounging. This was the first time I came across using tortillas as pizza bases and they make a beautifully light and crispy version that I adopted for myself.

L for Lucern in Switzerland.
I remember the breakfast was good, the Thai food was especial good thanks to very good fish. That’s said I’m not a carb lover so I don’t find these places exciting.

It’s sad that the Paia Fish Market in Front street of Lahaina is permanently closed.
They do have one in Waikiki, but the one in Lahaina was our favorite place to eat.

DH & I have decided that we really should just share a meal, it's so dang huge.
Last year when we went home, we shared a plate of fish and a salad, that was plenty enough for two!
