Breakfast around the world

Gosh! In Scotland I can believe it but I'm pretty sure most places in the England don't serve them. Maybe it depends where. I've stayed in a lot of of hotels... I've also watched numerous episodes of Four in a bed (its a TV show where 4 B&Bs compete) and rarely noticed kippers on the breakfast menu.

I just trawled through 20 B&B and hotel breakfast menus on the Norfolk coast. 2 of them served kippers. Now I'm craving kippers!

2022, we were staying at a hotel in Paris that was largely tailored to serve a British clientele - nearly everyone there was British, save us, a couple of Italian teenagers, and a French woman, much older than everyone else (and noticeably unamused that she’d landed in this hotel).

There were lots of eggs available for breakfast, but on the third or fourth day, one of the British patrons looked at the barely-changed daily menu card, then loudly and jokingly proclaimed, “WOT?!?! No kippers?!?!”

Gorgeous.
If the orange baby ever leaves office I’m coming over! 😂
You have a red carpet invitation!

Looking at my photos now that I am on my desktop (I was on my phone earlier) I see that I used "English" muffins for my bread base. Probably biscuits would have been better because of the crumb.

Excellent, I’ll dust off one of the carriages 😂

Fish bones in an omelette does seem rather umm... horrible.
The other bit i remembered overnight was the mushrooms.
I had asked for a mushroom omelette.
They could not conceive of someone not eating meat for breakfast, so i ended up with a Baltic white salmon and mushroom omelette. I picked at it, and bailed. It didn't matter how far i had to cycle that day, or how bitterly cold that Siberian wind was (and it was bitterly cold), I could not eat it.

When I complained, the answer was usually "..but ham isn't meat! " :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
Believe it or not, I’ve heard this in France with reference to bacon, and it wasn’t said as a joke, just simply as, “Everyone eats bacon, even vegetarians & those following a vegan diet. It’s an exception, it doesn’t count.”
