Back when men knew how to dress. Cary Grant is a classic

Where I got my arrogance.

When one of the kids was an in-patient at Children’s Hospital and roll off to sleep I’d spend some evenings at the nearby Tiki Ti bar.
It’s a tiny room that serves only hard liquor drinks.

If a Rolls Royce is parked across the street on Sunset Bl that means Nicolas Cage is in the bar. His driver has the coveted RR on his cap and earning that is a story in itself.

Anyway, they rope off a section of the tiny bar for Cage and star struck girls (usually tourists) can sit with him.

Though his acting skills are Chucky movie quality, his pix are usually pretty good.

Cage picks up everyone’s tab so that may explain why he’s occasionally reported to be broke.

For years there were cat food TV commercials with a cartoon Ronald Coleman cat as the presenter.

Coleman didn’t do many flix but I always liked his unique talent and screen persona.

That cat had Coleman down perfectly in voice, speaking style and of course the ascot and tweed trench coat.

One thing I liked about those eras is the morality clauses and self respect (or the appearance of it). People were held to a different standard and breaking that meant something. Now, anybody can become famous even if it starts with a scandal. I can't believe the number of people that have done soft porn or made sex tapes just to get their names out there.

Here are more images of men who lived in an era where men really did know how to dress. (Sorry, the Cary Grant era vibe doesn't really resonate with me... but...)

I know the first image here is from The Three Musketeers, no remembrance of who played what in that. The other two are almost certainly movie stills as well -

I have never been good at following (or caring, for that matter) about who plays what in a movie, although I did have a crush on the guy who played Chekhov in the original Star Trek series.

(This last man can come home with me, anytime... Oh, yes, I'd take the kilt-wearer in this post, too... And the first of those Musketeers although I like some of the other outfits better.)

Oh, the Golden Age movie stars got up to just as much debauchery as today's celebrities - it just didn't get reported in the press like it does now.

Of course they did. That's why there are scandal "newspapers". I was more commenting that was "out of place" in mainstream society. One shouldn't be able to kickstart a career with scandalous behavior especially when there are so many truly talented people that never get a shot.

If you like 1700's Scotland and swashbuckling with a good dose of romance (and lots of kilt wearing), check out Outlander series. Season 1 and 2 were quite good. I didn't much care for season 3, and I think they kept making the series but I haven't caught up on it. But even my husband liked season 1 and looked forward to watching it. I found it at our local video store in the dollar section a few years back and we binge watched it. I think you could probably find it on Netflix (it originally aired on Starz).
