Diverse Proteins - Iguana Pizza anyone? Or Croc burgers?

The pizza was reported on our local news stations a couple of days ago. Hard pass for me and quite a few others. After both of us having had alligator and DH having snake, we'll both pass on any kind of reptilian meat.

With the above said, some people from the islands do eat iguana regularly and like it. The tail and thighs (on larger ones) are what is eaten mostly.

We usually have falling iguanas at least once a year. The population dips for a bit, but is quickly replenished. We used to have a yard pet. She had obviously been someone's pet and had been dumped or escaped because she would let you pick her up and would hang out on your shoulder.

Didn't like it or didn't like the idea of eating it?

I've never eaten reptile other than experimentally cooking and eating a non venomous snake that accidentally got caught and demised under a shed door . Was basically a lot like eel but almost all rib bones and not really worth the effort.

I might be up to trying iguana. Is said to be "like chicken only better".

I've read that - says also eaten in South America

Interesting how many pets are dumped and then become 'invasive' species. Pythons and alligators too in FL I believe. Same applies to cats and dogs I guess.

Your adopted pet looks like she (how did you know?) was friendly 🦎

Alligator tastes like fishy chicken is the best way I can describe. DH said the snake he ate tasted like chicken getting ready to go off. Neither taste appeals to either of us.

DH kept snakes on and off since he was a teenager, including venomous, and was around many other reptiles. There are pictures on here of our emerald tree boas under my name and his, CraigC. His avatar pic is of an eyelash viper. We've only got 1 ETB left and she's in the house right now because her heat source couldn't keep up with the cold Temps outside. She's kept in a specially designed cage on our enclosed porch normally as normal habitat is in the trees in the rainforest.

We knew the iggy was okay with people because she didn't take off like the wild ones do when you approach, and would actually come to you, thus, him being able to pick her up.

If you scroll down a little from the post linked, you'll see another yard pet, a curly tail lizard.

Plenty of those where you are!
How was it and did you like it?
Like chicken...
Generally it's only croc tail that is eaten around here, which is less fishy thanthe other parts.
I don't know if it is true, but there is a story around here that the head/brain contains poison or can poison the meat. Very difficult to find out if it is true or just a tale

Wow interesting - no one's going to volunteer to find out 😅
