Recipe Empanada dough (from Venezuela)

Read the answer:
"Don't use masa harina, Reggiechefs. Use your yellow corn flour.
Masa harina is Mexican and has been treated with lye, which gives it a totally different flavour."

Harina in Spanish means flour in English. Harina de trigo is wheat flour. Harina de yuca is yuca/manioc flour. Harina de maíz is corn/maize flour.
Masa Harina is a Mexican flour, made from corn treated with lye, which softens/removes the husk and produces changes in the corn protein.
Harina PAN is precooked corn/maize flour, which you can find in Kroger's. Can't access a photo because of the sanctions on Venezuela, but look up "Harina PAN" in Kroger's website, and you'll find it there. (you can also use it to make arepas!)
Yes, I figured this out whilst you were busy watching sporting events this afternoon, LOL, and thank you anyway for the information. And also, the nearest Kroger to me is about a 2 hour round trip, so...
Sorry if I sound pedantic; that's not the idea, I just want to make sure you don't go out and buy something you won't use.🥰
But like I have said several times, I already have masa harina on hand (a big bag, I think 5 lbs) and I am trying to use it up, so I wasn't planning on buying anything new. And I found a bunch of recipes online for empanadas that use masa harina. Like I posted above
Right, but I am saying I found lotsof empanada recipes using Maseca, so they just won't be Venezuelan style.

OK - so tortillas, quesadillas, gorditas, enchiladas - hey, give me a week or so, and I'll come and cook for you.:D:D:D

Yeah, I have made tortillas from scratch many times!

And of course quesadillas and enchiladas, but don't forget tacos and burritos!

Not in love with gorditas, though. I just don't own a press since we only eat Mexican and Tex-Mex a few times a year. Also with it just being the 2 of us and we have small appetites, it will take me months to go through that bag. But if you want to cook, c'mon up! But why will it take you a week to get here?

I'm about an hour NW of Atlanta so just please chuck a bag out the window on your way to JAS_OH1 to cook for her. 😂

Kroger says low stock so they're probably out and Publix says they've got it on aisle 3. I'll try Publix in the morning.

If I remember correctly, KK's son moved from the Cincinnati, OH area to the Atlanta area and KK is planning a visit this summer to Hotlanta! I don't recall if he mentioned a date. It's a good thing he is used to the heat. Summers in Cincy are way more comfortable than Atlanta.

Date is next month or so I forget where he mentioned it. Still cool here for a minute. Pushing high 80's in a week...

Found it, in June. Travel Plans 2025

It's 53F here right now, going down to 41. Tuesday and Wednesday will be mid 80s then back to the 70s. I do love Ohio summers and don't miss Florida summers at all!
Must be why he said to give him a week or so, though I think his son would be rather salty if he flew to the US and then promptly made his way up to Ohio.

JAS_OH1 Publix had 4 bags in stock and that's here in a 2 lane town... 👍

Thank you, but like I have said several times, I already have masa harina on hand (a big bag, I think 5 lbs) and I am trying to use it up, so I wasn't planning on buying anything new. I am glad your empanadas will be Venezuelan style!
