Hominy and how to cook it

I suppose it could if you wanted it to, but it’s used a lot in soups and stews. I’m guess medtran49 ’s dish will be sort of the consistency of a gratin. 🤷‍♂️

Speaking of gratins…hominy gratin I made:

And a stew:

I reckon theres a divided by a common language thing going on here because in the UK there’s little difference between a casserole and a stew (technically a stew is done on the hob and a casserole in the oven) and the words are often used interchangeably.

Yeah, stews are more liquidy and are done on the stove top, casseroles are more solid and are baked in the oven. This is a casserole.

Ah we’d call that “a bake” it’s more solid and would be served up in sections with a big spoon or slice. For Brits a casserole is quite indistinguishable from a stew and a you’d need a ladle or ladle type spoon to serve up either.

It’s not even consistent here - when I lived in Minnesota, what I’d call a casserole they’d call a hot dish.

I ordered the two tins of the stuff from here. I thought best start with it pre-made and if its going in a bake (casserole) then the tin flavour you tend to get would disappear 🤷‍♀️

El Mexicano Pozole 822g

Thought it was very reasonably priced for a specialist online shop.
They even do a 3kg tin for £5.60 but best see if I get on with it first!

Besides the vegetables, I skipped the paprika and subbed a couple of good shakes of a hot sauce in the casserole recipe linked above. Forgot about that until just now.

Verdict is a big 👍. Craig really liked it as well. I know what a couple of the frozen bags of hominy will be used for. Guess I need to write the recipe with my changes.
