House and home

Next, I need to refocus on our laundry room remodel, which I'm also wainscoting. I installed the same in our dining room, and we also have some under the kitchen bar counter and above our fireplace surround.

Before pic, with 35-year old linoleum and cheap cabinets I installed when we bought the place in 2008.

Nothing is ever easy, and after ripping up the linoleum and underlayment, I found rot in the subfloor at the backdoor. I just had this door replaced, but the contractors never mentioned there was rot, or I'd have had them take care of it then, which would have been so much easier.

New underlayment installed, and LVP flooring being installed in this pic. That was my first time doing this, but it went well.

And here's where I'm at today. The new top cabinets are hung, but I still need to install and plumb the base cabinet for a sink, build the framework for the over-W/D countertop, and add all of the trim, though the cabinet crown molding and trim won't be available until next month. I'll hire out the countertop work, though the quotes I have right now are $$$$! Mrs. GH also wants to install a William Morris wallpaper print above the wainscoting, which should look bangin'! She painted the back wall in the color theme she wants, just to help visualize her options.

I think its because its so much money to spend in one go. Its also the fit - its not a large room - the colour and whether to go for leather. I think I'll end up with off white or cream simply because it can then be jazzed up with brightly coloured cushions. Its also a dark room and dark sofas would look gloomy. Also, do I need one if them to be a sofa bed in case I end up having to sleep down here again? Also, I don't want soft, yielding sofas as I won't be able to get up out if them again. Nice firm cushions needed.
That is an awful lot of variables to mentally juggle, I'd be firmly parked in dither mode 😆

I know what you mean about small spaces. The boys living room is small. They wanted very dark colours and told them it will make the space feel small and pokey. They said they were wanting to lean into the small size by making it feel cosy.

They did go a lot lighter green than originally planned (a sage colour) and then went dark with everything else. A dark green leather chesterfield, soft brown or green cushions and throws, dark industrial looking tv cabinet, large stacked brown wicker storage baskets and some really lovely old curios from the sale rooms including an amy captains old wooden trunk and a vintage Japanese tea set.

I thought it might be a mistake but they've done a fabulous job, you see it and immediately want to go and sit down in there.
The only thing that's missing is a fireplace!

Good job! I'm best at going back over the contractor work and fixing all the shortfalls. Retired FE thing. 😉
