I have this recipe for mushroom and asparagus risotto. How much is a knob of butter in grams? Similarly, how much is a bunch of chives?

Mushroom and asparagus risotto

Ingredients

1 tbsp oil

1 large brown onion, chopped
1 large garlic clove, crushed
275g/9¾oz risotto rice
100ml/3½fl oz dry white wine
150g/5½oz asparagus spears, stalks sliced into rounds and tips reserved
about 800ml/1⅓ pint hot chicken or vegetable stock
350g/12oz mixed button and chestnut mushrooms, sliced
75g/2⅓oz Parmesan, grated
1 bunch chives, snipped
large knob of butter
salt and freshly ground black pepper

I would say a big table spoon with about 20g and a bunch of chives could be half of one standard package you can find in the grocery store.

'knob' comes from old cookery - it is not an exactly defined amount.
it's 'a lump of butter'

opinions abound, none of which are factually accurate.

A knob is one of those measurements that is used when accuracy doesn't matter, like a "smidgeon" or a "drizzle."

I agree with Pablo -- roughly a well rounded tablespoon.

I agree.

I use tablespoons as a measurement for butter or ghee.

Butter here is sold by the pound. Not sure just how much a knob of it is.
