A salmon farming giant that supplied the royal family for more than three decades has had its Royal Warrant revoked. Mowi, the world's largest producer of Atlantic salmon, is no longer listed as a Royal Warrant holder after 35 years of supplying fish to the royal household. The Norwegian owned company had been the official fresh salmon supplier since 1990 and retained that status as recently as December last year.

The change follows animal cruelty concerns raised earlier this year.

Interesting. I have always dispatched a fish that way. And this is the first they've known of it?

There is a method that is supposed to be quicker, which is to insert an ice pick in through the eye socket and go into the brain and essentially scramble it, but exact location and size of the brain can vary species to species. Because of that I've never tried it.

Given the choice of those two methods, if I was an Eloi and held captive by the Morlocks, I know which I would choose.

I've read the same. Any sort of killing if animals is upsetting to witness for me.

I think the conditions under which the fish are kept is also seen as an issue though.

"Fish abuse"? 🤣 I've never heard of something so absurd. Whacking them on the head is a standard practice so they don't flop around in your boat, but there's no need for that in commercial fishing, since they just toss them straight into huge ice holds. I don't know why those guys even bothered, but I'd gladly buy their salmon.

I honestly don't understand how any animal can be "humanely" killed, but killed they must be for us to eat them. Percussion sounds fine and quick to me. As for the "overcrowding", that's really what fish farming is all about, isn't it? Maximum yield , minimum space?

We used to raise catfish. Big floating pens in the lake with 2500 fish/pen. They could swim around and didn't appear crowded. Real drag was when they got sick and they all needed an injection...

Strange...
Esp since that article says at the end that later research found no evidence.
If I am going to eat the fish that I catch, I'll bang it on the head as well. It's the quickest way to kill it as far as I know

I can't tell what's real or satire anymore. That article could just as well have been put out by The Babylon Bee.

King Charles has removed the Royal warrant from this company. So that is factual. However, he has not publically declared the reasons for doing so (according to my research).
