I wrote this in general chat but realised it could be a bit of a big topic 🤷‍♀️ so forgive how it’s written 🙏

Certain things changed yesterday firmly in the direction of moving to the Isle of Man 👏
The plan is the same as we did with Spain, exercise caution - get a holiday home there first, take our time to suss the place out and look before we leap.

I’m going to start collecting some bits n bobs now to ease the financial pain of having to furnish a new place.
Also I’m too old for the ‘that’ll do for now, I’ll replace it with something better later” (it is later 👵 😂), I’m more on the buy it right, buy it once stage (age) in life.

So I was wondering what items you have in your kitchen that you enjoy and wouldn’t want to be without.
It can be really simple like a set of measuring cups, a jug that doesn’t spill or some kitchen scales that are easy to use.
Or it can big something bigger like a microwave oven, a mixer, a crockery set.

Whatever you use that pleases you or brings you joy put it here. Pics nice but not necessary 😊

The first thing that went on my list -

Love these magnetic stacking measuring spoons. So much easier than ones clipped together with a ring or worse loose in a drawer (which mine usually are).

The large SS bowl is great, but having the whole set is better :)
It's nice to grab one that is just the right size for mixing some dry ingredients together, or whisking a couple eggs, or inverting the second largest one and using it in conjunction with the largest one to shake up some wings with sauce. For instance ;)
I use my SS bowls a lot.

I’m interpreting this a little differently…more along the lines of “What delights you when you think of using it,” which is a little different than thinking of things that are useful or must-haves to fit out a kitchen.

I’ll probably add a thing or two later, but one thing that comes to mind are my BKWare carbon steel Dutch ovens (casseroles to some) - they’re functional and beautifully designed. While the blue interiors aren’t always practical for getting a good look at what’s browning, they’re so distinctive, I’m willing to forgive them that. I enjoy these so much, both from a practical standpoint (they’re much lighter than the cast iron ones they replaced) and aesthetically, I actually look forward to using them and think of things I can cook to make use of them.

Something else along those lines would be particular cups/mugs and plates in patterns/designs that make you smile when you see them. I absolutely love my afternoon tea stand, with its busy William Morris patterns. I leave it out as a table centerpiece just so I can get a little lift when I walk by the table.

Table linens would also fall into that category, a certain teapot, etc.

I really enjoy using my stick blender, as odd as that might sound, especially when making something like mayonnaise, since it’s an almost magical thing that happens in seconds.

I also get a little giddy using our ancient electric knife. If it were to give up the ghost some day (it would have the right - it’s older than I am), I’d immediately replace it - it’s proof you can’t spell “functional” without “fun.”
