My Family Portrait

That is quite a collection.

I have embraced my hobby!!!

That is so cool. What would that equate to in real money?

Thanks. All of the sets are cash sets except for one because I normally host cash games. The chips are equal to to their face value. .25/1/5/25/100

Most of our cash games are 100 max buy in. A couple of guys will buy in for a little less (60 bucks). Whatever you buy in, that is what I give you in chips.

The table that the chips are on is a custom felt. I also have custom bourbon glasses, because, why not lol :)

I call my little area "Sunset at the Bourbon Club". On the sunset felt there is two small islands with bourbon barrels. etched into the barrels are both of my grandsons names.

So how do you handle the games? Is there some sort of etiquette? I don't know about poker but some card games can potentially ruin friendships.

When I go for my lads week in Herm we often play a game called three card brag in our cottages after the pub closes. But we have quite a strict etiquette when playing, mainly because we are all mates and nobody wants to see their mates gamble away their weeks money over a game of cards.
It is strictly 10p blind, 20p open. Also, if only two people are left fighting over the pot then those who are 'out' will often suggest that "why don't you guys just chuck in x£ and see each other.
I've even seen one occasion where one of the guys had a prial of threes (the best hand) and he actually told the other guy (who also had a pretty good hand) that there was no way he was gonna beat him.

Back in the day, I've heard horror stories of people going into the pub and having to go home and tell their wives that they had lost their weeks wages, or even gambled away a car.
Gambling was banned in pubs partially for that reason.

I've been running a monthly game for about 15 years (sometimes a little more often). We follow a strict guideline of rules and etiquette. Early on I was called a "rules Nazi", or "its just a friendly game", ect..... I always respond with that the best way to keep a game "friendly" is to follow the rules consistently, every single time. If something happens I have the final say. I always make a consistent decision based on what is best for the game (if I'm involved in the hand I have a back up to make the ruling). The base of rules that we follow are called "Roberts Rules of Poker".

I have removed players (one friend) from my invite list because of their inability to follow the rules or etiquette of the game.

I usually only have 7-8 players over. I prefer mixed games. Once you get more than 8 players you lose the ability to play these games.

I have about 30 players on my invite list. Only about 10 of them get regularly invited. I have three waves of invites. The first wave goes out to the 10 players that I enjoy playing with the most, the are friends, and that are the most reliable. As they decline the invite I invite the second wave, and then third wave of players (usually once a year type players).

I rarely get to the third wave of invites. Heck, a lot of times I won't even get to the second wave on invites.

Our buy in is 100 bucks. You can re buy, or top off to 100 bucks as often as you want. Most of my players bring three buy ins per night. Its rare that someone goes through all three. As far as I know my crew is financially responsible.

Growing up I knew of two schools that used to meet midday on Sunday, drinking and playing poker. I don't know the goings on but one had called themselves the "tin shed syndicate" about when I was an early teen the syndicate won our golden kiwi prize. I think the money was $50,000 so a lot of dosh in the early 70s. We have a casino in Chch, we try to go once a year. I love roulette.

The only gambling I do is once in a blue moon I'll buy a PowerBall ticket.

That's me, too. A few spare singles in my wallet at 7-Eleven, what the heck.

I have spent WAY too much time in Las Vegas on business. I throw my money away on good food (plenty of it there), drinks, and good cigars (also plentiful).

Husband wonders what's going on then a few seconds later she screamed don't do it you stupid bitc&, hubby walked into the lounge and asked her why she was screaming? She said I'm just watching our wedding video.
