• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

My family tradition: never "yucking" on food.

My sis is notoriously bad at trying anything out of her comfort zone. She came back from Thailand a few years back and complained that (a) they didn´t know how to make chips and (b) she couldn´t get a decent omelette. I told her to go to Great Yarmouth on her next holiday.
Her son is the same. He came over to visit me in Venezuela and we took him to Margarita island - beautiful beaches and wonderful fish/seafood.
Nope - he ate pizzas and pasta; both absolutely dire on the beach.
We went for a lobster dinner one day and he ordered a pasta dish - 4 cheeses, I recall - then looked at it and said, without even trying it: " I don´t think I´m going to like that".
The following day, I took him to the supermarket and said:
"We´re going to a remote beach where there´s only fish available, so buy some bread and cheese and make sandwiches before we go.":laugh:
