Plans for today (2025)

Off-cycle voting today, just two things on the ballot, a state-wide issuing authorizing the state to issue bonds to fund infrastructure projects, and a local school tax levy.

MrsT usually votes yes on the school tax levies, based on “I don’t want ‘em raising stupid kids,” but this year, they sent out a flyer showing how “little” the tax increase is, and for our income bracket, it’s $2K/year for five years. MrsT saw that and said, “They shoulda left that off…NO!”
I’m like this when I have to vote for school trustees in the municipal elections…”who are these people? Do trustees have platforms? What does a trustee actually do, anyway?”

Here, like most small rural-ish communities, there are two or three families who’ve been here since white Europeans first moved into the area, and they own and run everything between them. When you look at the school board members, the county elected officials, the township elected officials…it’s all those same names, and the same with the locally-owned business.

Sounds like here...

I was chairman of the board of trustees at my kids school. I told my committee that meetings were strictly an hour. Extension by vote..we passed spending fot allocated areas and guided the p.t.a. on what fundraising was to be done. I found it rewarding and made some good friends.
Also my son got benefits by telling his classmates if he didn't like them or they upset him he was going to get me to kick them.out of school. Pmsl.

I’ve had to rejig my plans as I double booked two things at the same time tomorrow morning (the dog groomer and a deep tissue massage) and then Mr SSOAP went ahead and booked my bike in to have the side stand changed miles away at exactly the same time.
The side stand really needs doing but not until AFTER it’s been chopped down by 2cm and welded back together which is a tall order to find someone to do that in the next 4/5 hours!

Then of course to muddy things further on top of the normal workload I didn’t quite finish agreeing to the renewal offer on that particular bikes insurance policy which has expired so I have to quickly search for insurance.

Plus to help my youngest out during his stressful final year exams and dissertation period I have a load of food arriving this afternoon that will need to be cooked and taken up there tomorrow too.

Oh and theres something very wrong with my car so I can’t drive it n the mechanic is snowed under 😱

Also one of my dogs seems to have developed conjunctivitis and I’ll have to spend some time bathing and de-crusting her poor eyes!

Edit: Probably enough time for just one more cup of tea though ay? 😂
