I think SandwichShortOfAPicnic is good at making software blow up...Well, I had to work this morning, monthly software release for our systems. I’m no longer on the development side, but I do have post-release tasks I have to do, so there I was.
“This’ll be a very small release, very quick,” said the release lead, “We’ll be done in an hour, tops.”
Three hours later…
What’s the one thing you hate hearing on these releases? The validators stepping in at the end, starting their validations, and saying, “Wow! I’ve never seen it do that before!”
Sigh…
We did get through it, and as usually happens, and at the risk of seeming egotistical, it fell to me to figure it out. I’m the oldest one in the group (ie, the most experienced) and it amazes me sometimes at the slipshod nature of some people’s troubleshooting skills.
Troubleshooting skills... If someone lacks the process understanding they'll never be able to troubleshoot it. Like, how can you fix it if you don't know how it works?
