Plans for today (2025)

Well, I had to work this morning, monthly software release for our systems. I’m no longer on the development side, but I do have post-release tasks I have to do, so there I was.

“This’ll be a very small release, very quick,” said the release lead, “We’ll be done in an hour, tops.”

Three hours later…

What’s the one thing you hate hearing on these releases? The validators stepping in at the end, starting their validations, and saying, “Wow! I’ve never seen it do that before!”

Sigh…

We did get through it, and as usually happens, and at the risk of seeming egotistical, it fell to me to figure it out. I’m the oldest one in the group (ie, the most experienced) and it amazes me sometimes at the slipshod nature of some people’s troubleshooting skills.
I think SandwichShortOfAPicnic is good at making software blow up...

Troubleshooting skills... If someone lacks the process understanding they'll never be able to troubleshoot it. Like, how can you fix it if you don't know how it works?

Sunday, so as little as possible. It’s supposed to be windy and rainy all day today anyway. Temps are finally breaking.

I think I’m going to get stuck with a little work today. The devil on my shoulder says ignore it and leave it until tomorrow, when the early guy will see it and handle it, but the angel on my other shoulder is telling me I need to fix it today, as a good coworker and employee… 🤔

Every year at this time, I sit down and work up a Christmas song and make a little video to send out to family and friends (and usually post here, I think), so today might be a good day to think about that. I’ve done bouncy bluegrass, fluid fingerstyle, rollicking rockabilly, joyous jazz…what shall it be this year? 🤔
