I've recently discovered rapeseed oil and have been using it a lot as a substitute for olive oil in cooking. It's a much healthier alternative to olive oil, and the best thing is that I buy it from a local supplier, so I am putting money back into my local community.

I do still use extra-virgin olive oil for salad dressings, as I find the rapeseed oil too flavoursome for my personal taste, but for pretty much everything else I've switched over to rapeseed oil. Does anyone else use it in their cooking?

I have used it and I agree it is not so good for salads but it is good for frying. Rapeseed oil is a well known cooking oil in Britain where rape is an agricultural crop. The fields look really lovely when the plants are covered in bright yellow flowers.

I don't know how much it is used in other countries. I mentioned it in an article once and someone commented that I had made an error. She thought I was referring to grapeseed oil (which is another type of culinary oil)!
