MrsT and I watch a lot of historical documentaries on Britain, and we’ve learned there are always certain rituals, I suppose, that go on behind the scenes that are presented to the public differently, in a sort of “positive spin” kind of way.

We’ve both been recognizing these rituals going on now with the Queen, so we’ve been expecting “the announcement” at any time.

Of course, she’s 96, so she could be up and around one day and gone the next, so it’s not being particularly prescient, but it’s interesting to see her imminent passing playing out in such familiar fashion.

Once all the family are in place at Balmoral we should expect the announcement. That the BBC has gone to black outfits tells us that the agreed proceedure following the death of a monarch is already underway.

The letters of authority that make him King will be signed immediately, the Coronation which is just a ceremony of celebration is likely to be next May or June when good weather is more likely.
