Sandwiches

Its not really like miracle whip. Its quite an acquired taste and most American palates find it very acidic. Plenty of UK palates dislike it too. Its vinegary but looks creamy! I like it a lot but then I'm not a fan of mayonnaise. Its good mixed with other things such as tomato ketchup, chilli sauce, yoghurt etc.

Is it used on salads, or is that just a name?

Two pieces of lightly toasted bread, buttered.

Nutella added to one, peanut butter to the other.

Then some sliced banana.

Enjoy!

I sometimes will also add a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on there.

Salad cream is a much maligned sauce. Like MG says it’s certainly not for everyone. I like using a good size splodge of it with the mayo in an egg n cress sandwich.

It became popular during WW2 because rationing meant eggs were precious items.
According to google it was first produced commercially by the American firm Heinz.

Apparently miracle whip is good for making sandwiches that you’re gonna freeze. It doesn’t degrade when defrosted the same way dairy or mayo does.

Edit: I used butter anyway because Miracle whips a specialist shop thing here and I read the list of ingredients it contains and was instantly put off 😂

Now onto the age-old question…when halving your sandwiches, how do you prefer to cut them, diagonally or vertically (maybe some will be cantankerous and say horizontally)?

It should go without saying, we’re talking the typical squarish sandwich, not an English muffin or bagel or hamburger bun sandwich, nor are we talking about cutting up sandwiches for afternoon tea. That’s something else entirely.

There are a lot of opinions expressed out there in the sandwich-verse, so what’s yours?

For me, if I’m cutting a sandwich in half, I prefer the diagonal cut, creating two triangles. MrsT, of course (because the universe has a perverse sense of humor) prefers hers cut vertically, to produce two rectangles.

My preference, though, is to not cut it at all, if possible.

Let’s hear from the rest of youse!
