The CookingBites Recipe Challenge: Paprika

kidney-paprika-served.jpg

I did this one as a personal challenge, and will edit the post when I get my recipe written up and posted in the proper area (sometime today). Basically - PAPRIKA (of course) and three ingredients in my fridge that were saying - Eat Now Or Else... So, a slow-cooking variant of the show, Chopped.

Basically:

Beef kidney marinated in yogurt with two types of paprika, served over wilted steamed spinach.

Find this at https://www.cookingbites.com/threads/beef-kidney-paprika-over-spinach.15909/

And to edit further: I meant to say this was a slow marinating, not a slow cooking recipe.

Kidneys! I love the idea of marinating them in yoghurt and slow cooking. Oh yeah...:hungry:

Smoked Paprika Cod in butter sauce

I was a bit fearful that I may be "under spicing" this recipe. However, I had forgotten the creamy power of butter and the "snap" of malt vinegar. In the end, the simple combination of Paprika, butter, malt vinegar and broth created a memorable sauce.

When I did that just now it made me realise I'd forgotten to tag my Chili recipe entry. Have done so now, but no worries @detroitdad if I did so too late.

Recipe was posted, just not tagged. As long as it is tagged now then I think it will qualify. Since I'm the "Judge". I get to make the ruling (oh how I do love my power lol).

I'm going to start looking over the recipes this morning.

I think I'm doing something wrong. I just read every recipe that was tagged in the challenge. I have narrowed it down to 7 recipes. Yes, SEVEN. I think I'm going to hit the treadmill, then shower. While I'll do this I'll reflect on the mighty 7 that I have narrowed it down to. I promise that I will choose in the next hour or so.

I want to point out that narrowing it down to "7" was a challenging lol. Here are the 7. This is not in order of preference.

I've been thinking about this for about an hour. My top three choices are as follows.

@morning glory Beef Stew:

I love stew first off. This dish sounds like it has multiple layers of flavor. The juniper berries really intrigue me. Same with the grated nutmeg and toasted coriander seeds. I can't wait to try this dish.

500 g stewing steak, cut into large chunks
2 tbsp hot paprika
10 juniper berries
10 black peppercorns
5 cloves
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
Grated nutmeg
250 ml red wine
Salt to taste
7 baby red tomatoes, peeled and halved
Toasted coriander seeds
Chives (or parsley)

Next up is @Yorky BBQ Red Chicken. This is absolutely something I plan on cooking. Probably this week. Lime and paprika is one of my favorite combinations for a marinade. Then once you add in everything else this really sounds like "MONEY".

Last, but not least, and this is very surprising to me is @TodayInTheKitchen meatloaf. Traditionally I don't like meatloaf. I think this recipe could turn me.

The winner is @Yorky BBQ Red Chicken

Thank you everyone for participating in my ingredient choice. I really do appreciate it.

Bill
