The humble grilled/toasted cheese sandwich

Yep I prefer cheese on toast to a toasted cheese sandwich. I

We tend to do cheese on toast rather than cheese toasties

Growing up, there was no such thing as a toasted cheese sandwich. It was just cheese on toast

Same here. Its a European thing I think or a Brit thing.

One piece of toasted bread is quite enough for me. Eaten with a knife and fork. I do a version which is cheese on egg on mustard on ham on toast. So start with ham...

The egg is poached or fried. The cheese melted over just enough so that it doesn't set the yolk.

I think being able to use a knife and fork is also a factor for me.
I really don’t enjoy the feeling of greasy hands.
I suppose I could use a knife and fork for a toastie but I always feel a bit of a nob eating food with a knife and fork that everyone eats with their hands 😂

I have around 12 lbs.
A reasonable amount of cheese I'd say 😅 and not all that much if you get the big chunks of 3-4 lbs, say or even smaller pieces, given that a lot/most cheese is sold plastic wrapped or vacuum sealed. Depends on how fast it's used and what's been opened and what hasn't 😎

Picture please :)

We had a electric waffle machine at home. It had this pattern of multiple hearts and you could sort of separate them individually.
I'm not sure how often we had waffles, but not often
Instead mum used it to make toasted sandwiches. They were very thin as the bread was pressed down properly.
They were tasty though.
First time I got one "out", I was very surprised about the way that toasted sandwich looked.
Nothing like at home!

Edit: one of the following usually makes and appearance - spring onion, branston pickle, piccalilli, gherkins, a layer of cream cheese under the cheddar, ham or theres a balsamic red onion chutney which is great with cheese and they are my go to toastie extra ingredients.
Anyone have a good or fave T&T recipe for the above with or without balsamic vinegar?
Have posted new thread 😊
